Gas cylinders are a necessity for every household. It’s almost impossible to function without one. In cities, cooking without a gas cylinder is unthinkable. While many people in villages still cook on earthen stoves, it has become a must for those living in cities. Homes are not built for stoves, and busy daily routines don’t allow time to light one.

The price of gas has been skyrocketing, with a cylinder costing up to one thousand rupees for home delivery. However, sometimes the delivery person cheats, causing you to lose a significant amount of money each month.

There is Less Gas in the Cylinder

Very few people know the actual weight of a gas cylinder and the gas it contains. The weight of a domestic gas cylinder is 14.2 kg, while the weight of an empty cylinder is around 16 kg. This means the weight of a filled cylinder is approximately 29.7 kg.

So, if you’re receiving a gas cylinder, the weight should be around 29.7 kg. If it’s less than this, it means the delivery person may have filled less gas in the cylinder or removed some gas. The seal on the cylinder isn’t always a guarantee that it’s correct. The seal is placed only after less gas has been filled.

Keep a Weighing Machine at Home

Here’s an important tip: when you take delivery of the cylinder, ask the delivery person to weigh it. If they claim not to have a weighing machine, you can buy one for about 200 to 300 rupees, either online or at a store. The weighing machine will have a hook; simply hook it onto the cylinder and lift it. If the weight is 29.7 kg, you can be sure that the gas cylinder is full.

Things to Keep in Mind When Taking Delivery of a Gas Cylinder:

  1. Ask the delivery person to weigh the cylinder.
  2. Ensure the cylinder is weighed in your presence before accepting it.
  3. Check that the weight written on the cylinder matches.
  4. A seal does not guarantee the cylinder is correct.
