EPFO Rule: The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has announced a significant update for its vast membership base. Under this new provision, EPFO members will now have the ability to amend their personal information effortlessly and without the need for documentation.
Benefits of the new rule
This encompasses various details such as date of birth, citizenship, names of parents, marital status, spouse’s name, gender, and the dates of joining and leaving their respective companies. EPFO has previously implemented similar changes. It is noteworthy that this update will benefit members with over four lakh pending cases.
Members can easily rectify their personal details
According to the new guidelines, members can easily rectify their personal details without any documentation, including corrections to name spellings, date of birth, parents’ names, gender, marital status, spouse’s name, and employment dates. EPFO has specified that this update applies solely to those members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked and verified with Aadhaar.
Previously, members were required to seek assistance from their employers for such updates, a process that was often time-consuming. Now, the procedure has been streamlined for greater efficiency. Initially, EPFO members must verify whether their Aadhaar card is linked to their Permanent Account Number (PAN). If not, they should complete this linkage first.
Furthermore, it has been indicated that the approval of EPFO is still necessary for updating 50 percent of the information, while members can independently update the remaining details. This initiative aims to address the increasing number of complaints and expedite their resolution.
Follow the process:
1. Understand the entire procedure
Initially, the member must access the EPFO website. Subsequently, it is necessary to input your UAN number, password, and the provided captcha. Upon successful login, the ‘Manage’ option will be visible at the top of the page. Click on this option. To update your personal information, select the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option. Ensure that the information entered corresponds with the details on your Aadhaar card. It is important to note that all information on the Aadhaar card and EPFO records must match. If proof in the form of an Aadhaar card or PAN card is required, please upload the relevant document.
