Big news for LIC policy holder’s. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has put out a public alert to inform policyholders and customers about fake mobile apps pretending to be associated with them. The company is advising everyone to only use their official website (www.licindia.in), the LIC Digital App, or other trusted payment methods listed on their site for any transactions.

Beware of LIC-related scams

In their notice, LIC mentioned that they’ve discovered some fraudulent media apps being circulated under their name. They strongly encourage all policyholders and customers to stick to official channels for any transactions. Remember, LIC won’t take responsibility for any payments made through unofficial digital platforms.

In recent years, digital scams targeting insurance customers have surged. Scammers create counterfeit apps and websites that mimic those of real insurance companies, tricking users into sharing personal information or making payments to unauthorized parties.

Common types of scams

Fake payment sites: Scammers design apps that closely resemble LIC’s digital platform, asking users to input policy information and pay premiums, which then go to fraudulent accounts.

Phishing scams: Customers receive fake emails or texts that link to bogus LIC websites, tricking them into providing their login info and financial details.

Fake calls: Scammers impersonate insurance reps, offering fake discounts or bonuses and pressuring customers for online payments.

How to steer clear of these scams: Always verify digital platforms: Only use official channels for transactions.

Check URLs and apps: Make sure to double-check the URL before entering any information. Only download apps from reliable sources like the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Calls, messages, or emails: Ignore any calls, emails, or messages from unfamiliar sources.

Protect your personal info: Never share sensitive policy information, OTPs, or banking details with anyone claiming to be official.

Report anything suspicious: If you spot any fraudulent apps or transactions, let customer service and the appropriate cyber crime authorities know.
