Maruti Suzuki Jimny: The Indian Armed Forces have officially transitioned from the Gypsy to the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV, as the manufacturer has delivered 60 Jimny vehicles to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This marks the inaugural induction of the Jimny into the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). These vehicles are set to be utilized in the border regions of Leh-Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.

ITBP operates in extreme weather conditions

The ITBP operates in some of India’s most demanding environments, including the high-altitude Himalayan regions, where extreme weather conditions prevail and temperatures can plummet to -45 degrees Celsius during winter. These areas are characterized by glaciers, snow-covered mountains, and challenging road conditions. Such remote locations necessitate robust vehicles. The Jimny will support ITBP personnel in their patrolling duties, border security, and the movement of officers and soldiers.

Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, who has a longstanding relationship with the Army, remarked, “Today is a moment of pride for Maruti Suzuki as we present the Jimny to the ITBP. The Jimny is ideally suited for navigating the harsh border regions where ITBP personnel diligently safeguard our nation. Its tagline, ‘Never Turn Back,’ embodies the resolve and bravery of our courageous soldiers in uniform. Maruti Suzuki has a rich history of supporting the armed forces by providing dependable vehicles.”

Key advantages of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Although the specifications may appear modest, the Jimny features a 4WD system that enables it to navigate various terrains effectively.
