Big news for EPFO members. The deadline for new private sector employees to activate their Universal Account Number (UAN) with EPFO has been pushed back again. Now, everyone needs to link their UAN and bank account to Aadhaar by February 15, no exceptions. This deadline has been extended multiple times, with the previous cutoff being January 15.
Activating the UAN is super important for EPFO members. This unique 12-digit number is tied to your PF account and stays the same no matter how many jobs you switch. Once your UAN is activated, you can easily access EPFO’s online services.
These services let you manage your PF account, view and download your passbook, and apply online for withdrawals, advances, or transfers. You can also update your personal info and check your claim status right away.
By activating your UAN, you’ll also be able to take advantage of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. This government initiative offers financial perks to employers and new hires to boost private sector employment. Right now, updates are only for those who started working this financial year, but eventually, older employees will need to update their details too.
Here’s how to activate your UAN:
1. Go to the official EPFO website (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in).
2. Click on the “Active UAN” option.
3. Enter your UAN, your PF registered mobile number, and your date of birth.
4. Fill in the captcha code shown on the screen and click “Get Authorization PIN.”
5. An OTP will be sent to your mobile. Enter it, and after verification, your UAN will be activated.
6. EPFO members will also receive a user ID and password.
