There is a big update revealed regarding Mukhyamantri Ladki Behen Yojana. On Friday, the Maharashtra government disqualified 500,000 women from the Mukhyamantri Ladki Behen Yojana. The reason? They were either already benefiting from other government programs or didn’t meet the scheme’s eligibility requirements.
Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare reassured that the funds deposited in these women’s bank accounts over the past six months won’t be taken back. She stated, “Those declared ineligible won’t receive benefits from January 2025. However, the money added to their accounts from July 2024 to December 2024 will remain untouched. It wouldn’t be fair otherwise, considering the welfare state concept.”
Sources indicate that over Rs 450 crore has been credited to the accounts of these 500,000 women during that six-month period. The scheme provides eligible women with Rs 1,500 each month.
Among those disqualified, 230,000 are already receiving benefits from the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, 110,000 are over 65 years old, and 160,000 own cars while also benefiting from other programs like the “Namo Shetkari Yojana.”
The Ladki Behen Yojana offers Rs 1,500 monthly to women under 65, provided their family income is below Rs 2.5 lakh annually. Additionally, there should be no government employees in the family, no four-wheeler ownership, and no monthly aid from other government schemes.
The government claims there are 2.46 crore beneficiaries of this scheme, which was introduced in the 2024-25 budget under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Before the assembly elections, the Maharashtra government rolled out several popular schemes, which contributed to the state’s financial deficit. They allocated a budget of Rs 46,000 crore for this initiative.
