The 7th Pay Commission, formed in February 2014, was approved by the Union Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It came into effect on January 1, 2016, and the salary changes for employees were implemented on July 1, 2016. Now, there is some information about whether the government is working on forming a committee for the 8th Pay Commission.
Finance Minister’s Statement
A question was raised in the Rajya Sabha regarding the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. The Finance Ministry responded in writing. Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance, stated that the government is not currently considering the formation of the 8th Pay Commission.
What Do Employee Organizations Say?
Many employee organizations have been pressing the government to form the 8th Pay Commission. They argue that due to rising inflation, the recommendations from the 7th Pay Commission are no longer sufficient to meet the employees’ needs. Additionally, they are calling for changes in the salary revision formula so that salary adjustments are made every 5 years instead of every 10 years.

The government has clarified that the formation of a new pay commission is not currently a priority. It has stated that employees are receiving relief through the dearness allowance and other allowances.
