Australia Without Many Key Players
Australia is always considered a strong contender in ICC tournaments, but their current situation is concerning. Apart from Starc, all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis are also missing from the squad. Starc has withdrawn from the Champions Trophy due to personal reasons. Now, the responsibility of leading a young team to victory in the tournament falls on Steve Smith, who is also captaining the team on the Sri Lanka tour. Smith has prior captaincy experience, which will be crucial for the team.
Five New Players Included in the Australian Squad
With Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood unavailable, Australia has called up Spencer Johnson, Nathan Ellis, Sean Abbott, and Ben Dwarshuis in their final 15-member squad. Cooper Connolly has been named as the travelling reserve.
Spencer Johnson has played just two ODIs and eight T20Is. He is seen as Starc’s replacement as a left-arm fast bowler.
Nathan Ellis was part of Australia’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He made his ODI debut three years ago in Pakistan.
Sean Abbott was also part of the Pakistan ODI tour and has played 26 ODIs, including a match in Australia’s 2023 World Cup-winning campaign in India.

वाइस कैप्टन की जिम्मेदारी पाने वाले युवा बल्लेबाज शुभमान गिल (87) की इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ पहली अर्धशतकीय पारी और मुश्किल वक्त में श्रेयस अय्यर (59) और अक्षर पटेल (52) के साथ निभाई गई अहम साझेदारियों की बदौलत टीम इंडिया ने वनडे सीरीज के पहले मुकाबले में इंग्लैंड को चार विकेट से हरा दिया। अनुभवी स्पिनर रविंद्र जडेजा और डेब्यू कर रहे तेज गेंदबाज हर्षित राणा ने तीन-तीन विकेट चटकाए जिससे भारत ने जोस बटलर और जेकब बेथेल के अर्धशतक के बावजूद इंग्लैंड को 248 रन पर समेट दिया। इस टारगेट को भारत ने छह विकेट खोकर 68 गेंद शेष रहते हासिल कर लिया।
टीम इंडिया के गेंदबाजों का कमाल
इससे पहले इंग्लैंड की ओर से कप्तान बटलर (52) और बेथेल (51) ने अर्धशतक जड़े जबकि ओपनिंग बल्लेबाज फिल सॉल्ट (43) ने भी तेज पारी खेली। इंग्लैंड ने एक समय बिना विकेट खोए 75 रन बनाकर अच्छी शुरुआत की थी लेकिन अगले दो रन के एवज में उसने तीन विकेट गंवा दिए और यहां से भारत ने मैच पर अपनी पकड़ बना ली। राणा (3/53) और अनुभवी रविंद्र जडेजा (3/26) ने तीन-तीन विकेट चटकाकर मेहमान टीम को 47.4 ओवर में समेटने में अहम भूमिका निभाई।

विराट चोट की वजह से नहीं खेल रहे थे ऐसे में सभी की निगाहें रोहित शर्मा पर थीं, जो पिछले कुछ समय से रन बनाने के लिए जूझ रहे थे। पिछली 17 पारियों में सिर्फ एक अर्धशतक जड़ सकने वाले रोहित का हालांकि बुरा दौर यहां भी जारी रहा। इस मैच से पहले पिछले सात वनडे मुकाबलों में 35, 64, 58, 47, 47, 61, 40 की पारी खेलने वाले रोहित छठे ओवर में सिर्फ दो रन के निजी स्कोर पर आउट हो गए। 11 अक्टूबर 2023 के बाद रोहित की यह महज दूसरी पारी थी जहां वो सिंगल डिजिट में आउट हुए। इससे पहले डेब्यू कर रहे यशस्वी जायसवाल (22 गेंद पर 15 रन) आउट होने वाले पहले बल्लेबाज रहे।
श्रेयस ने किया काउंटरअटैक
भारत ने 25 रन पर दो विकेट गंवा दिए और इंग्लैंड के गेंदबाज हावी होते नजर आ रहे थे। यहां पर नए बल्लेबाज श्रेयस अय्यर ने काउंटर अटैक करना शुरू किया। श्रेयस ने महज 30 गेंद पर फिफ्टी जड़कर टीम की मुकाबले में वापसी कराई। इस दौरान उन्होंने जोफ्रा आर्चर को निशाने पर लेते हुए उन पर दो लगातार सिक्स जड़े। वह 16वें ओवर में 59 के स्कोर पर आउट हुए। लेकिन इससे पहले 36 गेंद पर 9 फोर और 2 सिक्स से सजी पारी खेलकर टीम के टोटल को तीन अंकों में पहुंचा दिया। श्रेयस के जाने के बाद अक्षर पटेल को ऊपर भेजा गया और इस बाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज ने शुभमान के साथ 108 रन की साझेदारी करके टीम की जीत लगभग पक्की कर दी। अक्षर ने वनडे करियर का तीसरा अर्धशतक जड़ा। आउट होने से पहले अक्षर ने 47 गेंद पर 52 रन बनाए।
रन आउट से हुई शुरुआत
