What is the whole matter?
Many devotees had reached Prayagraj on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. When vehicles from other states were stopped near the Bhavapur toll plaza, the local people organized a roadside bhandara for the devotees. Puri-sabzi was being prepared there.
Meanwhile, the police station in charge, Brijesh Tiwari, reached the area and asked the people to leave. When the devotees and local people disagreed, he poured ash from the sieve into the bhagona of the Bhandara, contaminating the food.

After the incident, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav shared this video on his X (formerly Twitter), handling and criticizing the police behaviour that targeted the Yogi government. People are strongly condemning the police administration on social media regarding this issue.
Questions on preparations for Mahakumbh
Before the Mahakumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government trained all police officers to be polite to devotees and maintain peace. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also stressed that the police should not misbehave with devotees. Despite this, such incidents are raising questions about the government’s preparations.
Local people enthusiastically participate in the Mahakumbh to serve the devotees, but the arbitrary and inhuman actions of some policemen are undermining the dignity of this sacred event. The administration has taken prompt action in this matter, but it has also become clear that some officers are not taking the Chief Minister’s instructions seriously.
It remains to be seen what further revelations the investigation of this incident will yield and what action the administration will take against the culprits.
