Good news for everyone. A lot of folks dream of having their own place to call home, and many hustle hard to make that dream a reality. But not everyone gets to buy a house, as saving up enough cash can be tough. Nowadays, some people are opting to buy land and build their own homes, especially in India, where many still live in makeshift houses or don’t have proper homes.

To help out, the Government of India offers financial support through the PM Awas Yojana, aimed at assisting people in purchasing homes. However, in Uttar Pradesh, only women can benefit from this housing scheme. It’s worth checking out the rules in other states too.

Since its launch in 2014, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has helped millions across the country secure their own homes. The government has set specific eligibility criteria for people to qualify for the benefits of this scheme, and assistance is provided based on those guidelines.

The Uttar Pradesh government has updated the rules for benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. In line with their focus on women empowerment and the Mission Shakti campaign, they’ve decided that, moving forward, benefits will primarily be granted in the name of the female head of the household, except in unavoidable circumstances.

What about other states?

With this new requirement for women to be the main beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh, many are curious if similar changes have been made in other states regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The answer is no; these adjustments are unique to Uttar Pradesh. The way benefits are distributed in other states will remain unchanged, so people can continue to access the scheme as they have been.
